Marker 37 at Chester Point Marina

Chester, CT

The unique locale of a narrow peninsula with water on three sides and adjacent to a marina offered the opportunity for a new restaurant along with a boat sales showroom. The dining area includes an extensive bar, kitchen, and a large outdoor patio with a retractable awning. The second floor has a banquet space with an outdoor balcony, server area and bar, along with office, storage, and mechanical rooms. The adjacent boat sales showroom has a high ceiling with a corresponding large overhead door for boats access.

The exterior form of this 7,893 s.f. building evokes the flavor of a marina storage building, complementing the structures on site. It has a simple rectangular shape with a gable roof and a linear cupola. The facades are delineated with strategically placed glass doors and windows for both engaging the views as well as for admitting natural lighting. The façade embracing the Connecticut River view has a shed roof supported by the rhythm of two-level columns divided by the balcony. Exterior materials are also coherent with the storage building vernacular with the use of standing seam metal roofing and vertical-ribbed fiber cement panel siding. Marker 37 has established itself as a popular dining destination.
