Lake Hayward Pavilion

East Haddam, CT

The original beach pavilion for this residential lake community was destroyed by fire in 2012. FA was engaged by the Property Owners’ Association of Lake Hayward to design a new 36’ x 48’ pavilion with a 36’ x 36’ open area and remaining enclosed space for a kitchen and storage, along with an accessible bathroom, effectively serving as both a community space and a concession facility. The design consists of a floating roof with a vented cupola to allow for heat to escape during the warm season. The wood post and beam structure with open trusses and stone bases express the language of rural beach pavilion vernacular for informal community assembly, recreation, and concert entertainment.
