Theresa Rook Retirement Community

Cromwell, CT

The Theresa Rook Retirement Community was designed as an affordable alternative for seniors, offering an independent lifestyle. Set upon a hill, the 15-acre landscaped campus with nature trails overlooks the Connecticut River Valley. FA designed the 64-unit complex as a series of sixteen four-unit clusters, accessible by a continuous drive with parking areas, as well as pedestrian pathways. Each one-story building cluster is configured in a pinwheel configuration, thereby providing individual and separate entries for each apartment. FA also designed the community center on this campus. This project was funded by a $4.6 million low interest mortgage from the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) and a HOME grant of $1.5 million from the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD).
