House in the Field

East Hampton, CT

This cottage/cape hybrid style house was designed for primarily 1-story living. The intersecting assemblage of high-pitched roof gables accommodates a mix of spacious vaulted ceiling areas, attic storage, as well as a future bonus room over the 3-bay garage. The design concept of linked gabled wings in multiple directions accommodates the interior organization of public and private areas. The central primary area encompasses the foyer, dining, kitchen, and great room. In turn the west wing contains the master bedroom suite, while the eastern portions contain two bedroom areas.

The south wing garage element with west-facing doors was designed to not compete with the main street-facing façade. A covered porch provides an inviting entry, and a rear veranda offers ample private outdoor space. The overall informality of this 2,198 s.f. house integrates with its rural 24.6-acre site locale.
