Cheshire Public Library

Cheshire, CT

The Cheshire Public Library and the Town of Cheshire engaged with Fellner Architects to implement a space needs analysis, and to review and optimize the building program for this 34,312 s.f. facility. In turn, FA developed proposed architectural concepts and preliminary design. The resulting narrative with design concepts served to assist the Cheshire Public Library with obtaining a State Construction Grant. In turn, FA was asked to perform full architectural services. The program included modifications to the entry area and circulation desk at the main level. A major re-design of the lower level book stacks, lounges, new study rooms, accessible bathroom, and new information desk, creates a new interior environment with a focus on patrons’ sense of well-being. The upper level now has a new learning lab or “maker space.” This offers an atmosphere for stimulating memorable learning experiences, and for promoting inspiration, creativity, as well as expanding the imagination of the patrons.
