Middletown Area Transit
Middletown, CT
Middletown Area Transit had engaged FA in a series of projects starting with the design of an entry gate and courtyard to the bus terminal station. The gate offers a sense of identity on Main Street and the design intent was to enhance the pedestrian’s experience of entry, passageway, and the use of mass transit.
The next project was to develop a new design for the bus terminal, replacing the old circular bus parking pattern with a new parallel parking scenario, accommodated by a canopy structure. The resulting T-shaped curved glazed system with rhythmic steel framing connects the bus terminal building with the bus access points, providing shelter for pedestrians.Â
In time, FA was asked to design the renovations for an existing 6,000 s.f. industrial building through adaptive re-use into a bus storage facility including office space. The Federal Transit Administration and the Connecticut Department of Transportation funded this project.
