Moodus Reservoir House

East Haddam, CT

An existing one-story shack-like house along the shores of the Moodus Reservoir underwent a major transformation. The existing building was replaced and re-designed with a new foundation system and appropriate structural framing. Accommodating spatial needs, the first floor layout was completely modified along with a new deck, and a new second floor was added for the bedrooms. The resulting new form consists of a shed roof reaching up toward sliding gables. An array of windows allows for natural light and for engaging views of the lake. Ultimately, this responsive vacation house offers rest and recreation within this rural, waterfront context.
