Theresa Rook Retirement Community Center
Cromwell, CT
The Theresa Rook Retirement Community was designed as an affordable alternative for seniors, offering an independent lifestyle. Set upon a hill, the 15-acre landscaped campus with nature trails overlooks the Connecticut River Valley. FA designed the 64-unit complex as a series of sixteen four-unit modules, along with the community center. This building contains a large multi-purpose social hall, kitchen, social services, storage spaces, and administrative offices. The wrap-around roof with hips and gables, entry porches, and cupola evoke images of town meeting halls. The 6,100 s.f. center is well utilized for dining events, meetings, religious services, dances, and a variety of recreational functions. This project was funded by a $4.6 million low interest mortgage from the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) and a HOME grant of $1.5 million from the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD).
