Tony’s Package Store
Haddam, CT
The program involved a major renovation and expansion of the existing shop, including a wine tasting area, a beer cave, and an office mezzanine, along with additional storage and service areas. Conceptually, the space is designed to have an ambience that expresses a bit of mystery. The open space offers pathways into intimate niches. In particular, the stone-arched entry into the beer cave offers a unique experience. This is implemented with subdued lighting, flanking glass enclosures for beer storage/display, a wood ceiling that appears to be falling, a floor designed to look like flowing water, and a stone fountain with gently cascading water. The integration of stained concrete floors, stone walls and columns, wood beams and lattice, spot lighting, as well as whimsical props and artwork, help to define this unique shop.
