George Fellner, AIA

Principal

George FellnerGeorge received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and his Master of Architecture degree from The University of Florida. After working with architectural firms in New York, Florida and Connecticut, George formed Fellner Architects (FA) in 1987. He is licensed to practice architecture in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island; is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Connecticut); certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards; a Historical Architect certified by CT State Historic Preservation Office; and a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Accredited Professional). He also served a term on the Board of Directors and as AIA Connecticut President in 2017.

George has presented many programs on sustainability as a speaker at national and regional conferences. He also taught a sustainable design studio course at the University of Hartford Department of Architecture as an adjunct instructor. Committed to sharing sustainable strategies with the community, he has also presented to civic groups for advancing public awareness and understanding of energy-efficient design and relating architecture with the natural environment. This has included TV and radio interviews along with writing articles on sustainable design.

Additionally, George has been presenting programs for historical societies, art and photography clubs, mineral clubs, museums, libraries, and schools on architecture, fine arts, and photography, thereby providing his perspective on historical architectural styles and a wide spectrum of the fine arts. Committed to a dual-life path, his fine art photographs have been featured in photo exhibitions in Connecticut art galleries and museums. His work is exhibited in permanent art collections including the Yale School of Medicine, Jackson Laboratory at UCONN Health Center, and the NYC offices of Nature Genetics Journal. George has also written and published five books on both architectural and photography themes, along with a series of articles for an architectural column in a local newspaper. He continues to serve as a jury member for both architectural and photography competitions/awards programs. Another involvement is his ongoing production of videos for YouTube on a variety of photographic themes.

Mark Degnan, Assoc. AIA

Project Manager/Architectural Associate

Mark received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University. He has worked with Fellner Architects since 2008 on a wide assortment of commercial, community, healthcare, residential, and industrial projects. His prior work represents an accumulation of 12 years of experience with architectural firms in Connecticut and New York, focusing on school and healthcare projects. He is a member of the Town of Haddam Architectural Review Board and a past member of the Economic Development Committee. With a commitment to the arts and community, Mark is a founding member and technical director for the Blue Fire Stage Company in Haddam, CT and past treasurer. Other past involvements for serving the community include work with Habitat for Humanity in Bridgeport, CT and Syracuse, NY.

Wendy Johnson, AIA

Project Architect

Wendy received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University and is a registered architect in Connecticut. She joined the staff at Fellner Architects in 2024 and has worked on a series of commercial and residential projects. Her prior work represents an accumulation of 21 years of experience with architectural firms in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida, focusing on community, school, and residential projects. Wendy’s community involvements include community orchestra and tai chi.

Heidi Fellner

Business Manager

Heidi received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Hofstra University. She has worked with Fellner Architects since 1987, directing accounting and bookkeeping activities, as well as assisting with the various facets of business administration. Her prior experience includes work in accounting and business administration for companies and organizations in New York, Florida and Connecticut. Heidi has extensive experience from years doing dog agility and is presently active with her participation involved with dog shows.
